The democracy process in Morocco is irreversible, the head of the Moroccan government, Abdelilah Benkirane, said.
“There is no other solution. We believe that the countries of our region will evolve in the direction of democracy. It is an irreversible process,” Mr Benkirane told France 24 satellite TV channel.
“We are moving forward in small, yet sure-footed steps,” he added, pointing out that unlike other countries in the region, Morocco has anticipated the repercussions of the Arab Spring, undertaking wide-ranging political reforms, with the drawing up of a new Constitution and the holding of transparent elections.
On the impact of the economic crisis in Europe on Morocco, Mr Benkirane said it was “inevitable since the Europeans are our main economic partners.”
He insisted that rent-seeking in Morocco must be minimized and that the government is determined to regulate the transport grant system based on new rules.
