Morocco underlined the pressing need for the International Organization of French-speaking Communities (OIF) and the international community to provide considerable support for Mali to help it overcome the crisis it is facing and assist neighboring countries which host Malian refugees.
“A considerable support should be given to Mali to enable it overcome its crisis. Neighboring countries, mainly Niger and Burkina Faso, which are hosting thousands of refugees are also in need of assistance,” Moroccan foreign minister Saad Dine El Otmani said at the 28th ministerial conference of French-speaking countries which opened on Thursday in Kinshasa.
El Otmani, who is representing Morocco in the event, highlighted efforts made by the Kingdom to promote an active solidarity with African states, recalling HM King Mohammed VI’s initiative to send humanitarian aid to Niger which hosts thousands of Malian refugees.
In a statement to MAP, the minister said that the ministerial conference, in preparation for the 14th Francophonie summit themed “Francophonie, Environmental and Economic Challenges facing Global Governance”, discussed notably good governance, extractive industries and equitable development.
