Morocco is committed in good faith and ready to negotiate the Sahara issue on the basis of well-defined parameters by the UNSC and the autonomy initiative, Minister delegate for foreign affairs Youssef Amrani.
The Kingdom of Morocco remains committed in good faith and ready to negotiate on the basis of well-defined parameters by the UNSC and the autonomy initiative which was lauded by the international community as serious, realistic and credible, Amrani told Wednesday “Le Soir” paper.
This statement is made as the visit by UNSG personal envoy to Morocco, Algeria, Mauritania and Tindouf camps nears (October 27-November 13).
Only a political solution based on realism and the spirit of compromise could solve the regional conflict over the Sahara, he said, adding that influential powers as the United States support this viewpoint.
He recalled that the American stand did not change over the years which shows that the autonomy plan is serious and credible as it represents a potential approach that could meet the aspiration of the Sahara population to manage its own affairs in peace and dignity.
The minister noted that Christopher Ross will visit north Africa and several European capitals to revive the negotiation process.
