The visit of Christopher Ross, the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for the Sahara, provides an opportunity for Morocco to renew its attachment to the autonomy plan under its sovereignty, put on the table by the Kingdom years ago and largely welcomed by the international community as serious and credible, Communications Minister, Spokesman for the Government, Mustapha El Khalfi, said on Thursday.
The minister added, during a press briefing after the weekly cabinet meeting, that the visit of Ross comes at the initiative of the UN Secretary-General following the phone conversation between HM King Mohammed VI and Ban Ki-moon.
The phone conversation had stressed the need to abide by the explicit parameters set out in the UN Security Council resolutions in order to reach a lasting, mutually acceptable political solution to this artificial dispute, based on the principles defined by the Council.
El Khalfi pointed out that Morocco has also reiterated its commitment to establishing brotherly cooperation relations with Algeria towards speeding up the building of the Maghreb and addressing security challenges in the Sahel-Sahara region.
He insisted that Morocco affirmed, once again, its commitment to dialogue to reach a solution to this conflict on sound, lasting foundations
