Foreign Minister, Saad dine El Otmani called for establishing a coherent and a renovated model for a democratic governance that is capable of offering integrated solutions to the problems that the world is facing today.
Mr. El Otmani who is leading a Moroccan delegation to the 5th Bali Democracy Forum, held November 8-9 in Bali, Indonesia, said today’s world is witnessing profound changes and revolutions which had an unprecedented impact not just on the countries but also on global and regional peace and stability.
Democratizing governance globally will allow for the consolidation of peace and security, he underlined.
Concerning the reform of the UN system, Mr. El Otmani said it should take into account the challenges in terms of economic development, adding that the process of global governance reform should also take into consideration all the parties concerned in the field of political economy and finances, notably the private sector and the civil society.
Part of the efforts to consolidate relations between Morocco and Indonesia, the Moroccan minister held talks with his Indonesian counterpart, Marty Natalegawa which focused on the bilateral relations and ways to further consolidate them, especially in the economic and cultural fields.
The two ministers agreed to organize a mission of Indonesian high officials to Morocco to identify the sectors of cooperation, ahead of the 2nd Mixed Commission and the organization of Morocco’s cultural week in Indonesia and the Indonesian cultural week in Morocco.
On the sidelines of this Forum, El Otmani held similar meetings with the foreign ministers of Norway, East Timor, Papua new Guinea and Sri Lanka.
Launched in 2008, the BDF has gained increasing worldwide support and recognition as a regional forum to promote practical political cooperation to advance democratic principles.
