Moroccan foreign minister, Saad Dine El Otmani welcomed, Tuesday in Cairo, the agreement signed, Sunday in Doha, by the various components of the Syrian opposition on the formation of a new representative body.
“As an active member, the Kingdom of Morocco welcomes the agreement signed Sunday in Doha, by the various components of the Syrian opposition on forming a new national representative coalition uniting their efforts,” Mr El Otmani told MAP on the sidelines of the 2nd meeting of the Arab-European Forum, held in Cairo.
The minister, who described the agreement as an important step towards unifying all the components of the Syrian opposition, expressed hope that the crisis will “be resolved as soon as possible.”
Mr El Othmani said there are intense contacts between the various partners concerned by this issue ahead of the forthcoming Friends of Syria meeting, scheduled for late November in Marrakesh.
On Tuesday, the Arab League Council, which held an extraordinary session at the level of foreign ministers, recognized the legitimacy of the new Syrian opposition coalition and urged the rest of the opposition movements to join it.
The League also urged regional and international organizations to recognize the coalition as a legitimate representative of the aspirations of the Syrian people.
