Over a thousand people demonstrated on Thursday evening in front of the Permanent Mission of Israel to the United Nations in New York.
People were denouncing the indiscriminate killings perpetrated by the Israeli army against the unarmed civilian population in the Gaza Strip. They denounced the silence of the United States and the United Nations and called for the cessation of hostilities against the Palestinians, as well as holding Israel accountable for its policies.
The demonstration saw the participation of Palestinian sympathizers from different nationalities, including many Americans, who denounced the silence of their government regarding the “crimes” being perpetrated by the Israeli government against the civilian population in Gaza. They also denounced the siege imposed on the population for over 6 years and the silence of the United Nations.
Some of the protesters expressed to MWN their frustration to see the Security Council acts swiftly whenever there is an act of conflict triggered by an Arab country, and impose sanctions on it, while no such rule is applied against Israel.
“We have enough of this double standards,” said one American of Palestinian of descent, adding the “UN Security Council ought to uphold the rights of the Palestinians and protect them against atrocities committed by the Israeli armed forces.”
A similar demonstration was organized in Times Square where people vented their frustration to see the international community unwilling to hold Israel to account.
