Relations between Rabat and Nouakchott, once a model of its kind in the region, keep deteriorating. Both countries have been on bad terms for over two years, now stare at each other. Finding a topic on which both capitals agree nowadays is mission impossible.
According to well-informed sources, it seems that the problem comes from “irreconcilable differences” between the two heads of state. Other sources in Nouakchott criticize General Aziz’s abdication in front of Algiers’ pressure on several issues.
What is certain is that Mauritanian President’s gunshot wound revealed the gap that exists between Mauritania and Morocco. Observers do not rule out that the countries’ relations could quickly severed, since no official exchange has occurred in several months now.
