The French Foreign Affairs Ministry announced on Friday a meeting, next Wednesday in Paris, between Moroccan foreign minister Saad Dine El Otmani and his French counterpart Laurent Fabius as part of preparations for the French-Moroccan joint committee and the meeting on Syria slated in December in Morocco.
The meeting reflects the solidity of ties between Morocco and France and falls within the framework of the close relations with the Moroccan authorities, spokesperson of the French Foreign Affairs Ministry Philippe Lalliot said at a press briefing.
Bilaterally, it is part of the preparations for the high-level meeting scheduled on December 12-13 in Rabat and which will be attended by Fabius, French Premier Jean-Marc Ayrault and Moroccan officials.
The meeting, co-chaired by the heads of government of both countries, will examine means to strengthen bilateral cooperation and develop a number of common projects, he added.
The event will touch on several international and regional issues, notably the Sahara issue and the Syrian crisis as Morocco is preparing to host, late this year in Marrakech, the friend of Syria meeting, he added.
On the Sahara issue, he said that France has already reaffirmed its stance which is for the Moroccan autonomy initiative submitted in 2007 and considers that the plan is a serious and credible basis for a negotiated solution.
