The international community must be armed with political will and a close regional cooperation to address security challenges linked to terrorism threats which face the contemporary world, Minister delegate for foreign affairs Youssef Amrani said on Saturday in Tangier.
It is high time to go beyond the classic security approach and develop new tools to counter terrorism through the creation of wealth and the promotion of development and democratization, Amrani said at a panel on “Global Threat: New International Security Architecture”, held as part of the 2012 MEDays Forum.
He added that achieving regional cooperation and inter-state cooperation are crucial to fight against all forms of terrorist threats, referring to Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQMI) which operates in Northern Africa and the Sahel region.
He underlined that the building of the Arab Maghreb Union (AMU) has become a pressing need to enable the countries of the region to move forwards and work together.
