Foreign Minister Saad Dine El Otmani said, on Saturday, that he was pessimistic about the possible adoption by the UNSC of a stance against the ongoing Israeli attack on the Gaza strip.
“We are not upbeat about the possibility that the UNSC takes a stand on this Israeli aggression,” he told MAP on the sidelines of the extraordinary meeting by the Arab League Council held in Cairo.
He recalled the non-encouraging results of a recent meeting by the UNSC due to reserves by some countries, underlining the complex mechanisms and laws governing this body.
He added that Morocco, the only UNSC non permanent Arab member, is committed to continuing contacts within the UN body to convince as many countries as possible to take a firm stance on the Gaza aggression, saying that this attack is meant to hinder Palestinians’ efforts to become a UN non member state.
He underscored the Arab League council’s unanimity to back the Palestinian demand, noting that the extraordinary meeting seeks to coordinate Arab positions and support Palestinians in the Gaza strip.
