Marrakesh has been rated as the world’s ninth shopping holiday destination by a panel of expert judges, in a detailed review for Which? Travel.
Which? Travel is one of the most reliable guides worldwide, published 6 times a year, providing practical travel advice, recommendations, and inspirational ideas for travelers of the world.
Which? Travel has named New York the world’s best shopping holiday destination. Paris came a close second with a score of 75 per cent, whilst Hong Kong, with 74 per cent, was awarded third place, ahead of Tokyo and Singapore in fourth and fifth places, while sixth, seventh and eighth place went to Milan, Barcelona and Berlin respectively.
The unique souks and traditional markets of Marrakesh secured ninth place ahead of Dubai in tenth place.
Marrakesh has captured the imagination of visitors from all over the world for centuries thanks to its uniqueness which is manifested in its exotic and excellent hotels, traditional souks and “Djemma El Fna”; a massive square nicknamed the greatest medieval circus on earth.
Marrakesh has the largest traditional market, locally called souks, in Morocco, including approximately 40,000 Moroccan craftsmen in some 18 souks selling nearly everything from traditional Berber carpets to modern high-tech electronics.
Marrakesh has been selected as the best African tourist destination for the year 2012, by the Word Travel Awards, an institution that rewards and celebrates excellence across all sectors of the global travel and tourism industry.
