Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood and other Islamists will rally on Saturday to support President Mohamed Morsi in the wake of mass protests against his decree to assume broad powers, a Brotherhood official said.
Mahmud Ghozlan, a senior Brotherhood member and spokesman, told AFP the rally would be held in Cairo, after the movement had cancelled a mass demonstration that would have coincided with Tuesday’s huge opposition protest.
“Al-Nur party will organise a million man march next Saturday to support the constitutional declaration,” a spokesman for the Salafist party, Nader Bakkar, wrote on his Twitter account.
On Tuesday, tens of thousands of Morsi’s opponents rallied in Cairo’s Tahrir Square and across the country demanding he rescind the decree which gave him unprecedented presidential powers and placed his decisions beyond judicial review.
