The list of new ambassadors Rabat has to send to several strategic capitals has yet to be published. According to information from high ranked officials at the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the final list is quite surprising.
If Mohamed Saâd Alami (Istiqlal) is said to obtain the post of Ryad, which has been vacant for more than 3 years, Abdeslam Baraka would replace Frej Doukkali, a close friend of Abbas El Fassi in Madrid. Frej Doukkali has been working there for 7 years. However, the surprise might come from the situation in Paris.
Even though Socialists from the USFP are said to be very interested in the opportunity, it seems like the palace has chosen a high-ranked state official to become His Majesty’s representative in France. His name hasn’t been released yet, but sources at French Quai d’Orsay have stated that the name of the next Moroccan ambassador is already known there, and that he is a former important minister who is now the head of a big state institution.
USFP leaders are said to have been informed of the decision by their French counterparts, and to be highly disappointed. A cold reality for Mohamed El Yazghi and Lahbib Malki who hoped to spend the rest of their political career along the river Seine.
