The Kingdom of Morocco, which presides, starting Saturday, over the UN Security Council for December, will continue its efforts and effectively contribute to handling the issues submitted to the Security Council, based on the principles and constants of Morocco’s foreign policy, a foreign-ministry statement said.
These principles, the source went on, are based on respect for the sovereignty and the territorial integrity of states, consensual dialogue and peaceful settlement of disputes, and efforts to establish stability, security and peace in the world as a foundation for economic and social development.
The foreign minister, Saad Dine El Otmani, said that the Kingdom of Morocco will continue within the framework of its presidency to defend the priority issues at Arab and African levels, especially the Palestinian cause, the situation in the Middle East and the Syrian crisis, it said.
The Kingdom will also continue to defend all political and development issues relating to the African continent, in particular the crisis in northern Mali, the multidimensional crisis in the Sahel region, and the situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Côte d’Ivoire, Sierra Leone, Sudan and Somalia, the minister added.
Within the framework of its presidency of the Security Council, Morocco also plans to organize a ministerial meeting in New York on the situation in the Sahel region, attended by representatives of several international NGOs and regional organizations concerned by this crisis.
