Morocco is one of the very few hubs of stability in the Arab world, having managed to combine tradition and modernity with “great openness and moderation,” said Henri Guaino, French MP and special adviser to former French President, Nicolas Sarkozy.
“Morocco is one of the few hubs of stability in the Arab world. This is a country that has managed to combine its traditions and religious values while turning towards modernity,” said Guaino on the sidelines of a conference held Monday in Rabat by the High Commission for Planning on “international affairs and future prospects.”
Guaino stressed that the Kingdom ” is moving forward with great openness, moderation and intelligence”, hoping that Morocco would serve as “an example for many other countries, destabilized by fundamentalism and extremism.”
The Kingdom is “at the crossroads of modernity and tradition, Europe and Africa, the Atlantic and the Mediterranean, and the past and the future,” he said.
Commenting on the position of Africa at the international arena, Guaino regretted that the continent, rich with human and natural resources “has not played the role it deserves in the world yet.”
“One of the challenges of the new world order is to give Africa its proper place,” noted the French MP who is often considered an eminence grise of former President Nicolas Sarkozy.
