Morocco and China held, Wednesday in Beijing, a new round of political consultations with a view to establishing a strategic bilateral partnership.
Nasser Bourita, Secretary-General of Morocco’s foreign affairs ministry who leads the Moroccan delegation, told MAP news agency that Morocco and China are bound by ties of continued friendship and solidarity.
“These relationships build on a very substantial legal framework consisting of 230 agreements and are reinforced by a regular exchange of high-level visits,” he said.
He cited, in this respect, the visit of King Mohammed VI to China in 2002 and the Chinese President’s visit to Morocco in 2006, as well as the recent visit of Chinese Prime Minister in 2012, and the planned visit of Moroccan head of government to Beijing next year.
“Relations between China and Morocco have experienced in recent years an important evolution. In line with the royal vision to diversify partners and strengthen ties with emerging powers, Morocco is trying to incorporate its relations with China into a strategic partnership,” he said.
The Moroccan diplomat added that this partnership will be based on regular political dialogue on various bilateral, regional, multilateral and international actions.
This political dialogue would enable better coordination of actions and positions within international organizations and ahead of multilateral conferences, he said.
