Morocco has always provided valuable support to the Palestinian cause, thanks to the important role of King Mohammed VI, Chairman of Al-Quds committee at the regional and international fronts, said on Sunday Minister-Delegate for Foreign Affairs, Youssef Amrani.
In a statement to MAP on the sidelines of the Arab League’s Ministerial Committee on the Arab Peace Initiative in Doha, Amrani said Morocco was one of the first Arab countries to congratulate the Palestinian State on winning the Observer status at the UN.
The Moroccan official stressed the need “to create a new vision and new mechanisms for the revitalization of the Arab Peace Initiative,” adding that “our goal is to support the right of the Palestinian people and the establishment of a Palestinian state.”
Amrani said Arab Foreign ministers decided to dispatch a ministerial delegation to the Security Council, the United States, the European Union, China and Russia to ensure the implementation of the international resolutions on the peace process in the Middle East based on the Arab Peace Initiative.
The follow-up Committee of the Arab Peace Initiative convenes today in Doha to assess the Arab initiative in light of the latest developments in the Palestinian cause, especially the new status of Palestine at the United Nations General Assembly.
Amrani leads a Moroccan delegation to this meeting, chaired by Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Sheikh Jassem bin Hamad bin Jassem Al Thani.
