Over 13.7 million dirhams were raised for the 2012 AIDS telethon night, organized on Friday by the Moroccan Association to fight AIDS (ALCS) as part of a campaign dubbed “Sidaction Maroc 2012” (Dec.6-31).
The night was meant to raise money for HIV-positive people in need of health care and fight against their stigmatization.
The show, aired on TV channel “2M”, included reports, testimonies and debates by Moroccan and foreign physicians and sociologists, as well as civil society actors.
“Sidaction Maroc” is a biennial event seeking to collect funds for AIDS prevention and providing medical care for people carrying the virus.
The 2012 campaign, held under the patronage of HM King Mohammed VI, targets youth as statistics show that 51% of HIV-positive people are aged between 15 and 34.
The 2010 AIDS telethon had raised 13.1 million dirhams.
