The President of the United States, Barack Obama, was chosen as the person of this year by Time Magazine. By the end of every year, Time elects a prominent personality globe to be the person of the year, based on results of the work she/ he has done throughout the year.
On Wednesday, Time Magazine, in its special edition, dedicated a detailed article to President Obama. It described in detail his first term as President of the United States. Moreover, it described how Obama won his re-election for his second term, by defeating his Republican challenger Mitt Romney and winning almost all swing states.
The article shows how President Obama dealt with difficult crises throughout his first four years of presidency, including the financial meltdown, the healthcare reform, and ending the war in Iraq.
President Obama “has earned the right to set that direction and has learned from experience how to move the country. After four of the most challenging years in the nation’s history, his chance to leave office as a great President who was able to face crises and build a new majority coalition remains within reach,” concludes the article.
It is important to mention that Times’ person of the year of 2011 was “The Protester”. The choice was made in respect of all the protesters around the globe, especially in the Arab world. Protests erupted after a Tunisian fruit vendor, Mohamed Bouazizi set himself on fire in a public square on December 17, 2010.
