According to a recent survey conducted by Atlantico / IFOP evaluating the image of the Maghreb countries in France, Algeria suffers from a poor image among the French, including among Socialist voters. Only 26% of French people have a good image of Algeria, while 71% have a good image of Morocco and 53% of Tunisia. While Morocco enjoys a favorite rating among the French, Algeria suffers from a poor image.
The voting of the survey was based on a set of criteria. First, countries are assessed in terms of a tourist destination. In this regard, Morocco is doing extremely well mainly because of the landscape and the hospitality of the country. Countries are also considered in terms of economic, social and political history, as well as in terms of their relations with France.
Morocco enjoys a very good image in the eyes of supporters of the Socialist Party of President François Hollande (78%) and supporters of the UMP (80%) of former Presidents Nicolas Sarkozy and Jacques Chirac, both considered as good friends of Morocco. Conversely, supporters of the far-right National Front have negative image of the three Maghreb countries. Nevertheless, Morocco obtains the highest proportion of favorable rating with 41%, followed by Tunisia 36% and Algeria with 12%.
