Morocco was unanimously elected on Thursday by the African Group as president of the African Week which will be held at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris in May 2013.
“This important yearly event, which includes conferences, round tables and artistic and cultural festivities, comes at a time when UNESCO is making Africa a top priority,” a statement by Morocco’s permanent delegation to the UNESCO said.
Morocco’s election by African states is a recognition of the kingdom for the special interest HM the King takes in the African continent,” Morocco’s ambassador-delegate to the UN body Zohour Alaoui said.
