A new infection of Meningitis disease was discovered in Casablanca, Alkhabar reported today. The patient is reportedly a student who has been living on the residential campus of Hassan II – Ain Chok University, Casablanca. Once the infection was confirmed last Monday, a medical committee was sent immediately to vaccinate the rest of the student’s colleagues.
A few days ago, two children, ages 3 and 4, died in Moulay Rachid neighborhood, Casablanca .The laboratory analysis found that they died due to Meningitis. The children were attending the same kindergarten, a fact that makes the possibility of infection plausible. Another woman of 80 years old from the same area was reported to be infected as well. Since then, health officials and local authorities have been on alert.
According to the World Health Organization, meningitis is inflammation of the meninges, the covering of the brain and spinal cord. The disease is caused by bacterial, viral or fungal infection. The bacteria are transmitted from person-to-person through droplets of respiratory or throat secretions from carriers as well as close and prolonged contact.
