The Moroccan union of theater professionals (SMPT) stressed the need to take urgent measures for “the promotion of quality art and the allocation of public funds to significant productions according to the principles of good governance and accountability.”
In a communiqué issued at the end of its central council held December 28-30 in Bouznika under the theme “legal protection of the rights of the artist,” SMPT called for the adoption of a quota system for professional artists in terms of casting for cinema and TV production.
The union also called for respecting the minimum wage in contracts between producers, actors and writers in order to ensure quality artistic productions, “which can only be achieved through competitiveness, equality and respect of the rules of the profession.”
SMPT urged the government to take its full responsibilities regarding the implementation of the law on medical coverage and to establish structures to meet the social needs of art professionals
