Morocco “strongly” condemned the assassination of Tunisian politician Chokri Belaid, which took place Wednesday in the capital, Tunis.
“The Kingdom of Morocco strongly condemns this dangerous and unprecedented terrorist act in post-revolution Tunisia,” the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation said in a statement. Morocco reiterates “rejection of violence and political assassination, whatever their origins are,” the same source said.
“While expressing solidarity with the family of the deceased and with the Tunisian people, the Kingdom wishes stability for Tunisia and further combined efforts to build a democratic state and a prosperous future,” the statement added.
The 49-year-old lawyer and iconic political figure, who served as general coordinator of the Party of Democratic Patriots (PPD), was shot dead outside his house, by a man who fled on a motorcycle with an accomplice.
