TRIPOLI, Feb 23, 2013 (AFP) –
Libya’s coastguard has seized more than 30,000 kilograms (66,000 pounds) of drugs from a boat off the coast of Tripoli, a naval source said on Saturday.
“A Libyan-flagged boat was boarded on Thursday 40 miles (60 kilometres) to the northeast of Bouri oil field,” navy spokesman Ayub Gacem said, quoted by the official Lana news agency.
He said the authorities found 30,500 kilos of drugs on the boat, without specifying what kind, and arrested five people on board: two Moroccans, a Libyan, an Egyptian and a Tunisian.
“The boat named Bab Bahr was led to Tripoli’s naval base, where it arrived at 10:00 am on Friday,” Gacem said.
