‘Inspire’ is a publication crafted by Al-Qaeda movement in the Arabian Peninsula. The magazine reveals all the secrets and tricks to become a perfect little jihadist and inspires Muslim youths in the world to carry on lone-Jihad against the “oppressors of Muslims.” The Tsarnaev Boston bombers brothers were inspired.
It seems that Al-Qaeda organization is fully aware of the effect of media in countering opposing propaganda and creating balance. After heavily making use of the internet during its war on the “enemies of Islam” by means of launching speech videos, announcements and threats, the organization has recently adopted the American principle of ‘publish or perish.’ Al-Qaeda has come to publish a well crafted online seasonal magazine called ‘Inspire’ in which Jihad (as Al-Qaeda members call it) or terrorism (as the West sees it) is promoted and spread. Nearly 100,000 people around the world have downloaded the spring 2013 issue.
Launched in July 2010 by Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, the magazine marks a turning point in the communication strategy of the ‘terrorist’ movement. The magazine was born out of the will of a Yemeni Imam, or Bin Laden of the Internet, called Anwar al Awlaqi who was among the black list of most wanted figures for the US intelligence. After dying in September 2011, his fellow brethren maintained the same editorial line and made the magazine one of the most read magazines on the internet.
Many followers brand the magazine as a source of inspiration for young jihadists from around the world. The perpetrators of Boston deadly bombings are said to have been inspired by the magazine as Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, one of the Boston bombing suspects, confessed to the American investigators. The last issue of Inspire praises the perpetrators of Boston bombing and the attacks of London and sees them as mere acts of vengeance against those who flooded “Muslim blood.”
“When a 75 year old Muslim man walking with a stick from a local masjid in Birmingham is stabbed to death by a Christian Islamophobe, we do not even see it in the news. But when two zealous Muslims take vengeance on these barbaric acts by killing a British soldier who has served in Afghanistan to kill Muslims; when vengeance is taken, the whole world stands on its toes,” said Muhammed As-san’ani in an article entitled “The Dear Price and the Constant Turmoil.”
The issue of March gave some “recipes”to make bombs from “kitchen stuff” such as pressure cooker, like the one detonated in Boston Marathon finish line. The latest 39 pages issue contains several articles and a message to the nation of the United States and ordinary people holding them responsible for the “oppression” inflicted by their government on Muslims around the world.
“O American nation, indeed your security is not achieved by spoiling other nations’ security or by attacking and oppressing them. Your security is achieved by stopping the foolish who rule you from oppression and aggression. Know that oppression and aggression rebound on the throats of the perpetrators,” said the message. “Everyday you will be hit by the unexpected and your leaders can repel nothing! Do not deny when evil befalls you, when you taste a bit of destruction that you inflict on others. Hence blame none but your selves. Gulp the bitterness of war, death, destruction and insecurity as other oppressed humans do,” the message continued.
