Following the state of tension and the exchange of allegations between political parties in Morocco, especially the Istiqlal Party (the party of Independence) and Justice and Development Party (PJD) which leads the government, Morocco’s Minster of the interior and the secretary general of the Popular Movement (MP) Mohaned Laenser called on all political actors to “transcend their differences and pool their efforts to build a Morocco they would all be proud of.”
Speaking in Casablanca on Sunday at a meeting on the consistency of the status of MP with the law on political parties, he stressed that “the differences of views between the parties is a natural thing, and the same thing for the lively debate on the political scene. But what is not natural, even unhealthy, is that partisan differences seem to last forever.” Hence, for him, there is a need for all political actors to demonstrate wisdom.
While reviewing the fundamentals of his party and the challenges it has to face, Mohand Laenser emphasized the MP’s moderate and centrist position. He noted that the biggest challenge that arises now is to work together to defend the territorial integrity and the promotion of major projects launched in the kingdom to guarantee citizens a dignified and prosperous life.
Mohammed Ouzzine, member of the political bureau of the MP and minister of The Youth and Sports, in his turn, noted that Morocco “is going through a difficult phase that requires the mobilization of all its components to enable the implementation of the provisions of the new Constitution.”
For his part, his colleague in the political bureau of the party and in the government, the Minister of State for Public Service and the Modernization of the Administration, Abdeladim El Guerrouj indicated that the next extraordinary congress, scheduled for next Saturday, June 30, will lead to the amendment of the status of the party; an initiative, that “aims at strengthening the structures of MP and reinvigorating a new dynamic in the political field.
