Casablanca dwellers living between Zerktouni Avenue and Mohammed VI Avenue were shocked by the unusual sound of shootings last Thursday afternoon.
Moroccan police officers soon engaged in a motorbike chase against four Chinese who are the main suspects in the shootings.
The chase lasted many hours before the police could get hold of the suspects. Sources close to the police asserted that the men arrested are permanent residents in Morocco.
One of the four Chinese was hit by a gunshot fired near Zerktouni Avenue. The victim lives in the neighborhood where the shooting occurred.
The police had to chase the suspects involved in the shooting with their motorbikes before they could arrest them far from the shooting site, precisely in Idrissia Avenue.
The investigation is underway and the motives behind these shootings are still unclear.
But the pressing question remains how these Chinese residents managed to have guns at their disposal in a country that has a strict legislation on guns possession.
In recent years, Casablanca received a large number of Chinese small business owners who opened many shops in Casablanca’s famous shopping hub, Derb Omar.
