State-run statistics agency CAPMAS noted that slightly more than half of Egypt’s population – 51.1 percent – is male, while 48.9 percent is female.
The number of people in the Arab world’s most populous nation has hit 85 million, according to official figures released on Tuesday.

Within the last six months, the agency found, the total population had increased by one million.
Cairo is Egypt’s most densely populated province, boasting a total population of 9 million. The South Sinai province, meanwhile, has the lowest population, at only 172,772.
The average Egyptian urban family, meanwhile, is comprised of 4.1 members, CAPMAS found, while the average rural family has 4.7 members.
The report did not, however, mention the total number of Egyptian nationals living abroad.
