ANKARA – More than 44,000 Syrians fled their country within the past two weeks
Chemical attacks and the possibility of a military strike accelerated the refugee movement from Syria last week and passages to Iraq especially increased as clashes in northern Syria getting fiercer.
Camps close to Turkish border – home to approximately 40,000 Syrian refugees – saw 10,000 more refugees in one week.
According to figure provided by UN High Commissioner for Refugees, 711,920 refugees currently stay in camps located in Lebanon. Jordan camps host 515,512 Syrians and 110,088 refugees are in Egypt. Resources say the figures are larger than those as everybody is not given an official refugee status in those countries.
Camps located within Turkey borders saw 458, 837 Syrian refugees so far.
Number of refugees fleeing Syria is feared to be increasing with the possible air strike and escalating clashes.
