TAROUDANT, Morocco - Mr. Aziz Akhannouch, Minister of Agriculture and Marine Fisheries and Interim Finance Minister, and officials of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) inaugurated on Wednesday in Marrakech a new modern fish market funded by (MCC).
TAROUDANT, Morocco – Mr. Aziz Akhannouch, Minister of Agriculture and Marine Fisheries and Interim Finance Minister, and officials of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) inaugurated on Wednesday in Marrakech a new modern fish market funded by (MCC).
Accompanied by Mr. Paul Weinberger, vice president of public relations for the MCC and Mr. Mark Green, a member of the Board of Directors of the MCC, the Moroccan Minister visited the various components of this project.
According to Maghreb Arab Press, Mrs. Munera Salem Murdock, resident director of MCC-Morocco, explained that the fish market of Marrakech is the largest facility of its kind conducted by the Millennium Challenge in Africa.
This market is “the largest facility of its kind not only in Morocco but also in all Africa,” Munera Salem Murdock said in a TV report.
With the aim of reorganizing the marketing of sea products in the region of Marrakech-Tensift-Al Haouz, this new wholesale was built in an area that extends over of 3 hectares.
The new project is the result of a partnership between the National Board of Fisheries (ONP), the Urban Commune of Marrakesh and the Agency of Partnership for Progress (APP).
“As a direct impact of this new project, funded by the MCC, it is expected that fish consumption in the region of Marrakech will increase from 8 to 13 kg per capita per year,” Mr. Aziz Akhannouch said in a TV report conducted by 2M TV.
“This new infrastructure will also enable 1.5 million potential consumers to make better use of the fishery resources of the country in the best conditions of quality, price, traceability, availability, health and safety,” added the Minister.
