BERLIN- German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle on Tuesday said that Syrian government has to sign the Chemical Weapons Convention.
Westerwelle said in a statement in Berlin that the upcoming steps that Syria to take will be important.
“If Syria is serious, it has to join the Chemical Weapons Convention. This convention is there to reveal, control and destroy chemical weapons,” Westerwelle said.
The government in Damascus has to implement this as soon as possible, Westerwelle underlined, and added, “Damascus has to lay its cards on the table and declare all chemical weapons they have.”
Westerwelle also said that the Syrian government has to allow international inspectors to control the current weapons in the country.
German Foreign Minister also pointed out that those responsible for the terrible incident in Syria on August 21 have to be found and the International Court of Justice needs to be adressed about the use of chemical weapons.
“Germany participates in all the political and diplomatic efforts for a political solution on the Syrian issue,” Westerwelle reminded.
