PARIS – Morocco ranked 5th in the 7th francophone games held this Sept.7-15 in the French Riviera city of Nice, with a total of 23 medals
Moroccan athletes took 7 gold medals, 10 silver and 6 bronze.
The gold medals were captured in the 10,000 m race by Hicham Bellani, in the 1500 m race by Rabab Arafi, in the 400 m hurdles by Hayat Lambarki, in the 3000 steeple by Hamid Ezzine (3000 steeple), in handsport 5000m race by Othmane El Gourmi and in Judo by Mehdi El Malki (+100kg).
The first place went to France, the host country, with 58 medals (23 gold, 23 silver and 12 bronze), followed by Canada with a total of 44 medals (15 gold, 14 silver and 12 bronze) and Poland (10 gold, 4 silver and 13 bronze).
The upcoming francophone games will be held in 2017 in Cote d’Ivoire.
