Taroudant- Trusted sources informed MWN that Mr. Saad Eddine El Othmani, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is likely to leave the ministry, following a government reshuffle that will be made public in the coming days.
The same source, which followed closely the ongoing negotiations between the head of government, Mr. Abdelilah Benkirane, and the National Rally of Independents, said that it is more likely that Mr. Salah Eddine Mezouar, the Secretary-General of the National Rally of Independents, will be entrusted with the ministry of foreign affairs.
Mr. Salah Eddine Mezouar once said, “I never put myself in the equation. What is important is to get Morocco out of this situation of governmental crisis and make the effort to save this experience that embodies the democratic choice “.
Yet, political analysts said that Mezouar was aspiring to lead again the ministry of finance. But his bid could not materialize for two reasons:
First, Mezouar could not be entrusted again with finance minister because of the opposition of a large sector of Moroccan public opinion, especially after he was accused of a number of cases of corruption during the period when he was at the helm of this ministry.
The second reason is due to the change in the Algerian Foreign Ministry after the cabinet reshuffle carried out recently by the Algerian President, Mr. Abdelaziz Bouteflika, when he appointed Mr. Ramtane Lamamra, a diplomat known for his knowledge of the Sahara issue, head of the Algerian diplomacy.
After months of political crisis linked to the withdrawal of the Istiqlal party, and several weeks of negotiations with the head of the National Rally of Independents, Salaheddine Mezouar, the two parties seem to have reached a consensus on the new government.
