RABAT – Nowadays, approximately 74 million young people worldwide are out of work. But once job seeking is considered a “respectable job”, you will see how much the youth unemployment rate goes down.
Like any other occupation, job hunting has an objective and a mission that should be accomplished by adopting an effective methodology. Problem solving, prospecting strategies, cold-calling, labour market analysis, … aren’t all these activities enough to start to perceive job seeking as an employment instead of looking down on it as if it was a fatal failure? It’s time to realize that the main key to tackling youth unemployment is held by people most affected by the problem: unemployed young people.
It is said that success doesn’t come to you, you go to it. Therefore, before demonstrating in the streets young job seekers should rather look at the problem differently and deal with it in such a way as to transform it into a highly constructive experience. As mentioned earlier, a wise job seeker is one who knows how to recover from the unemployment disease and choose to practice it as a “job” through all the activities that characterize it.
Nevertheless, tackling youth unemployment can’t be done effectively if governments don’t take it seriously and don’t fully appreciate the challenges and aspirations of those young people whose dearest hope is to find a decent job. They should motivate and support those who can’t help themselves, so that they don’t choose the “easy” way to earn a living: stealing, burglary, etc.
Nobody can deny that governments around the world made and are still making a lot of effort to end this global crisis. However if the youth unemployment rate continues increasing until now it means that they are supposed to innovate. Let’s create new types of jobs! Let’s stimulate new market demand! Let’s promote innovative technologies everywhere! Innovation is the best way to raise both production and employment. Thus, it can be considered as the major driver of the world economy in the future.
Moreover, global problems demand global solutions! All governments around the world should henceforth walk hand-in-hand to fight this global and universal problem because when we compare the labour market statistics of the countries that suffer from high jobless rates we notice that the labour market of one country can complement others.
Indeed, job seekers in country X can be easily employable in country Y and vice versa. Then, it might be very beneficial if exchange programs could be launched in this context. However, it is the responsibility of every political and economic actor, in each country, to build visionary strategies whose main pillars are focusing on the promising economic sectors, matching education with industry needs and thinking long-term.
Finally, there should be no unemployment in a world where there are still untapped resources and lots of ideas. There are just people who do not work.
