Addis-Ababa – Morocco made important progress in achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) mainly in the sectors of health, access to water and the fight against poverty, said the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) in a report submitted, Friday in Addis-Ababa, to the regional consultation meeting on the sustainable development objectives.
Recalling the case of Morocco and Egypt among others, the study underlines that some north African countries will probably achieve most of the MDGs in 2015.
However, the document noted the existence of differences in terms of achieving these goals between not only the sub-region countries, but also within regions in the same country. They concern mainly economic development, food insecurity, and access to basic health services and energy.
