Casablanca- According to news outlet, the police arrested a man in Casablanca’s Ain Chock neighborhood for impersonating a police officer.
The arrested man had allegedly stopped a car and requested the driver to hand him his driving license before attempting to rob him off his phone and flee away.
The police found that the 22-year-old had already been arrested for similar infringements. During police interrogations, the fake police officer quickly admitted the charges held against him. The accused will be prosecuted for attempted theft and police impersonation.
Insecurity in Casablanca
New kind crimes have started surfacing in the economic city, ranging from armed bank robbery to police impersonation.
However, phone robbery is the most frequent among all street crimes in the kingdom, and tensions between robbers and victims sometimes leads to serious injuries or even murder.
The lack of police authority in zones where robbery and other sorts of crimes are rampant is one factor among many that account for the shocking pervasiveness of these phenomena.
“I was stopped by a woman who seemed not in shape the other day,” a red taxi driver shared with me, “She said she was forced into a car by someone near Ai Diab beach in Casablanca. The man threatened to harm her if she did not hand him all valuable things she had on her. When the guy saw that she had a bank car, he asked her to give him her password under the threat of killing her if she lied.”
“He said he would take her to the nearest bank agency to check the accuracy of the password before he released her,” the taxi driver continued,
“Miraculously, she managed to convince him that she wasn’t lying and that there wasn’t much money in her bank account. Well, she actually lied! Her bank account contained everything she and her husband had been saving for their children’s education. The woman had heart issues, and I could see the effect of that shocking incident on her. She could barely breathe,” he added.
