Fez- The much-anticipated FIFA Club World Cup, which will take place in the Moroccan cities of Agadir and Marrakech, will kick off tomorrow. But, the organization of the prestigious tournament in the North African country did not guarantee to Moroccan fans that they will be able to watch its games on their public channels.
Indeed, no Moroccan channel is allowed to broadcast the games, which will force millions of Moroccans fans to turn to foreign channels such as Al Jazeera Sports.
This abnormal situation elicited harsh criticism from Moroccan journalist Hassan Boutabssil, director of the Arriyadiya TV channel, who wondered about the point of organizing such an international event if Moroccans channels and journalists can’t even cover it and the host country’s fans can’t even watch it on their public channels.
Boutabssil was quoted by the Moroccan daily newspaper Annass in its issue of Wednesday as saying: “What is the point of organizing this World Cup if the Moroccan viewers cannot follow this international competition on public channels and what’s the point if Moroccan journalists are not allowed to cover it?”
