Casablanca – Raja’s qualification for the final of the World Club Cup after recently defeating Brazilian club, Atletico Mineiro, 3-1 stirred an atmosphere of historical I celebration in Morocco.
The green club’s remarkable performance during this match and its triumph at the end were also highlighted in the Brazilian press, which, in turn, did not hesitate to laud Raja’s great performance.
On Raja’s remarkable performance in its match versus Atletico Mineiro, the Brazilian daily Vija wrote,“Atletico Mineiro could simply not stand up against Raja. They could not pierce Raja’s strong defense and were unable to launch successful counterattacks against them.”
Terra Brasil, another Brazilian news outlet, shed light on “Mouhcine Iajour’s fatal counterattack,” in contrast to “Atletico Mineiro’s few and unsuccessful attempts to score more goals against Raja.”
For its part, Brazilian newspaper A Trade shared the reaction of Atletico Mineiro’s coach, Alexandre Kalil. “We did not give a good performance,” he confessed, “We assume all the responsibility for our failure.”
Diario Cuiaba, another Brazilian news source, saw Raja’s victory against Atletico Mineiro as “a humiliation” for the Brazilian club.
Jornal do Brasil, for its part, chose to highlight Raja’s remarkable match against Atletico Mineiro from a different vantage point. The newspaper highlighted the cheering and enthusiasm expressed by Raja’s supporters outside the stadium, instead of the dashed hopes of Atletico Mineiro’s supporters after the defeat of their club.
Brazilian Vija also reported Brazilian player Ronaldinho’s impressions on the match as well as its aftermath. The superstar said he was disappointed with his club’s performance during the match against Raja. Ronaldinho also referred to the incident that took place a few minutes after the end of the match, when a number of Raja players and fans forced him to take off his shoes.
The resignation of Atletico Mineiro’s coach after his club’s defeat against Raja could not pass unnoticed. Some news outlets saw in this a graphic illustration of the acute disappointment felt by all members of Brazilian club as well as their supporters.
On the other hand, other news outlets and media focussed on the World Club Cup’s final match, which will pit Raja against Bayern Munich, on Saturday 21, in Marrakech. Many Raja supporters have deemed this match “an honorable opportunity in itself, and one of the matches that illustrate the green club’s celebrated internationality.”
