Sidi Ifni, Morocco– This the big day for Moroccans from all walks of life, in Morocco and abroad. Moroccan fans are holding their breath and hoping the best for their team against the giant German team, Bayern Munich. Since Raja qualified to the final of the FIFA Club World Cup on Wednesday after a historic win over Brazil’s Atletico Mineiro, Moroccans have reconciled with their national teams and regained faith in their ability to achieve another landmark victory in their rich history of Moroccan football.
Although they are aware that the task won’t be easy as Raja will face an experienced and effective German team full of international stars, Moroccans are assertive and think that their team will up to the challenge and offer then another historic win.
Morocco World News interviewed a number of Moroccans from the south who are going to watch today’s Raja-vs.- Bayern match.
“We are going to watch this match. We are sure Raja will win the game! We are so excited,“ a young Moroccan with his father told MWN.
In emulation of Casablanca’s fans of Raja team, people from Sidi Ifni, Tiznit, and Agadir have started shouting “Hello my Mum. Send us money. Raja is still here.”
Commenting on this challenging match, Hamid Boulid, a fan of Raja, said: “Raja is going to win by 2-0”. “I hope Raja will win the cup and won’t disappoint the Moroccan people.”
We sincerely hope that our king Mohamed VI will be happy to see the team raising the trophy,” Hamid added.
Raja’s astonishing performance in the tournament gives Moroccans hope that Moroccan football is still not dead.
“We can breathe a deep sigh of relief now that our team has unprecedentedly reached the final. Everyone is celebrating the match, ranging from our grandparents, parents, children and the whole family, “a father of four told MWN.
“As you can see, cafés are crowded; this is a sign that our hearts is with Raja against Bayern,“ he added.
Despite the fact that Bayern has proved invincible in the matches it has played for the past months, some Moroccans still have faith in the capabilities of Raja to live up to the challenge and beat the Germans.
“We are sure Raja will be the winner. They can’t let us down. Since it was able to defeat all the other teams, it is able defeat the Bayern,“ Rachid Bouali, a taxi driver from Sidi Ifni, told MWN.
“Raja has proved amazing, and it shall remain so for the rest of the tournament,“ he added.
The streets of Moroccans cities are already being deserted, which signals that a whole country is behind its team.
“What Raja players need to do while playing is remember the Moroccans who are impatiently waiting for the historic victory, our hearts are with them,“ Hamid Boulid, a young Moroccan from Sidi Ifni told MWN.
