Rabat – Middle East Newsline has issued a new report which confirms a split between the military and intelligence services in Algeria.
According to daily Al Massaa newspaper, MENL’s report said that there has been tension between the intelligence agency and ranking military figures.
The internal conflict has intensified lately with president’s absence due to illness.
According to the same source, the split comes two months before the presidential elections that may lead Abdelazize Boutaflika to his fourth term.
The report notes that this is the first time when the clash has been made public.
The U.S. and France have already called on Algeria to conduct a cleansing operation in its intelligence agency, after the French secret service accused the Algerian Security Intelligence Services of kidnapping Europeans.
