Rabat- Moroccan authorities announced that a French citizen, whose identity was not disclosed, was arrested on Saturday in Rabat, Morocco on suspicion of belonging to a terrorist network.
According to Le Parisien, the French suspect is alleged to belong to a terrorist network active “in the field of recruiting volunteers to fight in several areas of tension around the world.”
The suspect will be tried once the investigation is completed under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor.
The suspect was the subject of an international arrest warrant issued by Spain. He was arrested after Moroccan security services launched an investigation in coordination with Judiciary Police (La Police Judiciaire).
According to the same source, the suspect was arrested in the wake “of the dismantlement in mid-March of a terrorist network whose members were recruiting fighters in Laroui in northern Morocco, the Spanish enclave of Melilla and Malaga, in southern Spain.
The members of this network are active “in the field of recruiting volunteers to fight in several areas of tension around the world,” said a statement of National Directorate Security (DGNS).
This terrorist cell, which is headed by a Spanish citizen,”has branches in Morocco, Belgium, France, Tunisia, Turkey, Libya, Mali, Indonesia and Syria, among others,” reported le Parisien.
