Rabat – The Moroccan police department said a total of 103,714 suspects were arrested nationwide in the first quarter of 2014.
The source said 75,750 persons were arrested red-handed, while 27,964 other arrested suspects were wanted for alleged involvement in various crimes.
The number of arrests was 14pc higher than in the same period of last year (68,644 suspects arrested, including 22,030 who were wanted).
In the same period, police patrols around schools have led to the arrest of 737 people for alleged drug possession and trafficking while the quantities of banned substances seized reached 4.48 grams of hashish (cannabis resin), 11 heroine bags, one bag of cocaine and 213 hallucinogenic pills.
The police department release also points out the rate of resolved criminal cases stood at 87.93 pc, noting that the rate of violent crimes did not exceed 2 pc.
The police department goes on that various security operations will be carried on, both in their preventive and repressive aspects, in order to identify and fight any criminal act jeopardizing the security of citizens and their property.
