Rabat - Mohamed Amamou, the first secretary general of the Arab Maghreb Union (regional grouping comprising Algeria, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco and Tunisia) passed away Sunday in Tunis, the UMA Secretariat general announced.

The obituary published Monday deplores the death of a Tunisian national “whose contribution, as the first secretary general of the UMA, was “considerable in laying the bases of the Maghreban institution, consolidating its structures, and effectively launching Maghreban joint action”.
The Tunisian national had held several diplomatic positions.
