Dakar - Moroccan former Olympic champ and currently vice-chair of the International Olympic Committee, Nawal El Moutawakil, was awarded on Sunday in Dakar the "Commander of the national Lion order" distinction by Senegalese president Macky Sall.
Dakar – Moroccan former Olympic champ and currently vice-chair of the International Olympic Committee, Nawal El Moutawakil, was awarded on Sunday in Dakar the “Commander of the national Lion order” distinction by Senegalese president Macky Sall.
Former Youth and Sports Minister at the Moroccan government, El Moutwawakil was the first African woman to become Olympic champ in 1984, in Los Angeles, in the 400 m hurdles.
She was also the first Arab and African woman to become member of the IOC’s executive committee and the International Athletics federation (IAAF).
