Marrakech – In the Moroccan education system, the baccalaureate exam is the most pivotal test.
This reputation is due to the fact that it is the gate to the future of every single student. This year’s Bac witnessed the success of more than 44 percent of students. One of the successful students I would like to take the time to commend is Omar Ouhssaine who happens to be disabled. Omar has difficulty moving his hands, as he is on a wheelchair.
Despite these hindrances, Omar overcame his special needs and achieved an amazing 17.45 score in Sciences of Mathematics in Salah Alddine High school. Omar is well known among his friends as Stephen Hawking of Tinghir because of the commonalities he and British physicist Stephen Hawking share.
Omar was born in 1992 in a rural area in the Tinghir province and was brought up in a poor family as is the case with many other Moroccans. He did not follow any extra courses, as he did not even enjoy any special care from special needs experts. He fought on with the help of his brother/assistant, Hamza Ouhssaine (also earning his Bac with good distinction), who is always beside him. Omar is a model of patience and strong will; of struggle and possibility.
In the beginning, Omar dropped out of school after he obtained his primary certificate with a good distinction. He decided to drop out having suffered stereotypes and a sense of inferiority at the hands of his colleagues. He felt he could not carry on in a space where he is not respected and appreciated for who he is.
Omar stayed away from school for about three years until he obtained a free certificate of secondary school. Afterward, thanks to the encouragement of his ex-teachers, Omar came back to school and carried on as a distinguished student obtaining a remarkable 17.45 this year.
Omar’s dream is to enroll in preparatory classes to the superior schools, but his above-average age has become an obstacle; as he was away from school for a number of years when his peers took advantage of this opportunity.
From this perspective, Omar appeals all the officials at the Ministry of Higher Education to assist him in achieving his dream.
it is worth mentioning that the preparatory classes (Les Classes Preparatoire) are part of the Moroccan Educational System and which are originally subordinate to the French post-secondary education system. This phase consistes of two years of hard training and preparing students so as to carry on their study in one of the Higher institutes and colleges.
