Nairobi – Morocco is a model for sustainable development in Africa and a vital platform in the triangulation for the transfer of know-how and sustainable technology, said UN Deputy Secretary-General and Executive Director of the United Nations Program for Environment (UNEP) Ashim Steiner, in a meeting on Friday at the UN headquarters in Nairobi, with Minister delegate for the Environment, Hakima El Haite.
“The contribution of the Kingdom in the transition to a green economy and a sustainable development that is resource-efficient and environmentally friendly is undeniable, said Steiner, welcoming the initiatives undertaken by Morocco in this field, particularly the adoption of a framework law on the Charter of environment and sustainable development.
He has proposed that the great international bankers travel to Morocco to help setting up the country’s Green Investment Fund and he asked the Moroccan party to appoint a permanent representative to the United Nations General Assembly for the environment, being aware of the pioneering role that Morocco plays in establishing win-win partnerships both regionally and internationally.
