Marrakech – Morocco “is lucky enough to be a monarchy, which guarantees its stability” in a troubled Arab region, said on Monday in Marrakech, British famous comedian Jeremy Irons.
Unlike the situation in several Arab countries, “things are moving here slowly but surely”, he told a press conference as he received a warm tribute at the ongoing Marrakech international film festival.
The Academy Award-winning actor said he was honored by the career tribute received in a country which he loves and where he has several friends, describing as “great” his experience as member of the short movies jury of the Marrakech festival, which gives him the opportunity to watch movies that one cannot watch elsewhere.
In addition to Marrakech where Iron had already visited as chairman of the short movies jury in 2003, Irons recollects his previous travels to the Kingdom where he shot two movies, especially Essaouira which gives a chance to discover the desert and the dunes and Fes which, he said, is his favorite city.
