Rabat – Morocco adopted an efficient new policy regarding the management of immigration and refugee affairs, which makes it a model for many countries in the region, said United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) regional director for MENA, Amin Awad Abu Bakr, on Thursday in Rabat.
The Moroccan approach to immigration and refugee issues has a worldwide scope and stems from international laws in force, the UN official told the press after a meeting with the minister in charge of Moroccan Expats and Immigration, Anis Birou.
In a similar statement, Birou underlined Morocco’s close cooperation with UNHCR since the launch of immigrants’ situation regularization in Morocco in order to benefit from UN expertise in the field.
“Morocco has made huge progress in refugee issues management,” the minister said.
